Elizabeth Roth endorses Taylor Guitars and Fred Kelly thumbpicks. She also endorses Martin and Larrivee and Rainsong Guitars. None of these companies know, or care, that she endorses them, but she still does. If any of these companies would like to send her some free stuff, she will gratefully accept it!

I warned you not to look! This is not a very serious part of my site. Even though it is true. Just me rambling about stuff I find amusing....

Fascinating little known facts:

Well....

Elizabeth Roth is actually a pretty big star, but most people just don't know that.

Roth once shared the stage with Randalls' High Diving Racing Pigs and a traveling alligator show at the St Johns Country Fair! (Actually, I thought it was hilarious. The St Augustine Record said something like, "Saturdays line up includes Randall's High Diving Racing pigs, singer Elizabeth Roth, and a travelling alligator show - and no, they will not be performing together...")

Once, a few years back, there was a cool rumor that she had opened for Fleetwood Mac in Jacksonville. She got asked twice about it, and she really wanted to lie and agree that she did indeed open for Fleetwood Mac (and that it wasn't any big thang....), but being an honest girl, she just couldn't do it.

One time she got recognized by a stranger at a rest area in South Carolina, and she and her kids were pretty darn impressed by that!

At any such time that Elizabeth ever becomes even remotely famous or opens for anybody of note, she promises to let the webmaster know and we will report it here - immediately.

(Hey, Elizabeth here, I promised to let you all know, and now it is time. Wouldn't you know, I was poking fun at myself and then right away I got to actually "open" for somebody.  I opened for Cheryl Wheeler on April 15, 2003 at Cafe Eleven in St Augustine Beach. Cheryl Wheeler is a Rounder Records recording artist, and one of my personal favorites. I have four of her albums, I love her stuff! It was a real honor, and a fun show. Thanks to those of you that attended. Now, I'll let you know when Fleetwood Mac contacts me - ha ha)

(Well, I might as well add to that. I have now opened for Tracey Grammer too. That was also an honor, she is great - what fun.)

Oh well, I guess opening for the diving racing pigs and alligators can no longer be my claim to fame!

Ok, back to the silly stuff:

Some groovy things people have said to Elizabeth while she was singing:

"Play something YOU like."

"Play something you KNOW" (What does that mean?)

"Was that a real song? Or did you make that up?"

"We have seen you here for the last several years. When we come back next year, we hope for OUR sake that you are here. We hope for YOUR sake that you are somewhere else!"

"Play something GOOD now"

"Congratulations!" (on being a musician? Whatever it means, it is nice, foreigners say it a lot.)

"We came by to see you the other day and you weren't here. We thought perhaps you had GRADUATED!"  (Did they mean from college, or from that particular club, or St Augustine?)

"Good Luck!"

"I hope you 'make' it"

"Don't give up!"

"Have you ever thought about becoming a PROFESSIONAL singer?"

"You will have to sing more of your original songs if you ever want to get out of this rut you are in" (or "town you are in"....or "so we will know who you REALLY are as an ARTIST"  variations....)

"SLOOOW down"

"Pick it up, now!"

"I don't like folk music"

"Are you a PROFESSIONAL musician?"

"Do you live in a van?" (like Jewel????)

"I don't like rock music"

"I could show you how to play that song right if you want me to."

"I could teach you some chords that you could use, and you'd never have to use that capo."

"You sound great. And I even know all the songs you sing, because my parents used to listen to the classic rock station!" (This guy was about 30!)

"You aren't going to play music.... here....NOW....I hope?"

Once a guy bought my CD at the Tradewinds, and before he left he gave it to a stranger.  This 2nd gentleman was a regular at Tradewinds... and one who had never particularly shown any interest in my act.

He walked up to me and said, "That guy who just left, he gave me your CD".

 I asked, "Why?".

He said, "I don't know. He said he didn't own a CD player."

I said. "Oh.....that's cool, I guess..."

He said, "Not really. Because I don't want it. I could use ten dollars though, for another drink or two..."

Ha ha! I gave him ten dollars, he gave me back the CD, he got another beverage and I made $5!

I was hired by the PTA to play at the 75th anniversary of my very own Elementary School in Jacksonville. (Ortega Elementary). They had a barbeque on the lawn, a raffle, craft sale, etc. Since I was an alum., I thought it would be cute to have an elementary school picture of myself, and the words "class of 1975" (the year I finished 5th grade) at the base of my mic stand. The gig was fun, the weather was nice, and I saw some people I knew. During the gig there were several older ladies who stopped by to say how nice I was for playing for the event. "Oh, this is just SO nice of you!" one woman exclaimed.

A while later a man walked up and said, "I have a question for you. Are you a PROFESSIONAL musician?" I said, "Yes".  "Oh!", he said excitedly. "I KNEW it! I knew you weren't just singing that well, without being a PROFESSIONAL!" That's when I realized- those ladies probably thought I had volunteered. They didn't realize that I had been hired. Which is fine, but there's just something comical about that to me...me there with my "class of 1975" sign...as if I were coming back to show my elementary school  just what a big star I had become....

Ha ha, just like Janis Joplin, right?

Its a very glamorous job.

Seriously, the people make it fun. I couldn't resist adding a little crazy section. Have a great day, and thanks for visiting my site!

P.S. (because I am always worried about offending people) NO OFFENSE INTENDED!

Seriously, If you happen to be one of the people who said or did one of those things, please don't take offense. Some of those things are said with sincere intentions (like "good luck" or "I hope you make it") and I am not trying to make fun of people. I just think they are funny stories.

So, don't be offended. In fact -  LIGHTEN UP!

If, however, you happen to be one of the people who have walked up and said something like "you're horrible" or "you stink"  -  I wouldn't think you would be reading this.... but just in case you are, I have to tell you, I DON'T LIKE YOU, EITHER. (Please turn over your membership card immediately. Your invitation to join my fan club is hereby revoked.)

Have a great day! -elizabeth
