Hey guys, I am just checking to see if my guestbook is working.
I am finally learning how to manage this site myself, I hope it will be a fun place to visit and I will try to add new features often to keep things interesting.
I am working very hard on the new CD. (I know, I know, I have been saying that for a while now.) But I am on the home stretch! I'll let you know as soon as it becomes available. (2-3 months and I should have it in hand.)
Best regards, and hope to see you soon at one of my shows,
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth- Thursday at Cafe Cortesse was great- good energy. Sorry it took so long to relay this story but better late than never... By the way- this is Tom- Two Thursdays ago I asked Ellen how she would describe your voice and she said exactly what I was thinking and said "clarity". Steve then replied "angelic" and said your music should be playing when he gets to heaven. Not only do I share his sentiment but he is one of the few people I can say for sure that belongs in heaven. See you on Halloween- looking forward to seeing the Goth Roth look.

Hi Elizabeth, I got a big kick out of your comments section. I have been to see you many times (first with my hat, then with my short gray hair and then with my newly caramel colored hair); and with several people. Anytime we have out of town company, I drag them to see you. I have played your CD until I am sure it is wearing out..... and am looking forward to your new CD.
I made you a CD of Joan Armatrading "To The Limit" as you sang one of her songs on YOUR CD and this was made from an album as the CD is impossible to find. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy it as it is my favorite Joan Armatrading; and will bring it next time. My BD is coming up and I am hoping to come see you during that weekend.
I ride around in my new convertible singing at the top of my lungs to your music; (tho when I have to much to drink: rarely, I sound just like Whitney Houston).
Thank you for the joy of listening to you sing!
See you soon, Nan Burton burton_nan@hotmail.com

She says she will play a track on her show today, and mention the Cheryl Wheeler show on Tuesday night, and mention that I will be a guest next week (Fri Apr 18). If anyone wants to tune in, her show is Sat mornings, 9:30-11:30 on 88.5, WFCF. I don't know what time she will play something of mine today, but I will be interviewed and we will play a few tracks from about 11:00-11:30 on the 18th.

I came with my husband in 1991 to visit St. Augustine with his parents and stayed at The Beach Club. During our stay we went to dinner at the OC and heard Elizabeth sing. What a terrific voice she had. She sat at our table and had some water and talked to us for the rest of the night. We enjoyed her company and she did tell us that she had made her first CD. So we bought it and I continued to buy them every year we come to St Augustine. I had hoped to see her this as well. We are here now June 9 throw the 16th 2003 and do hope that we can share the enjoyment of see her talent again. Cheri and Roger Welk

Hi Cindy, Thanks so much! It was an honor to open for Cheryl, but I am sure she meets so many people that I'm not sure if I even stick out in her mind! We didn't get a chance to chat much but I did get a chance to meet her and I gave her a copy of the CD. She was very nice and of course, a wonderful performer. If you do talk to her, tell her that you like the Cd and that she should give it a listen if she has not already. (I even signed it to "my favorite singer" and later I wondered if she sensed my sincerity or if she just thought I was trying to be flattering. I really have admired her for years, and I would get a kick out of the idea that she had listened to my CD, too. We are totally different in style, but I'll bet she would like some of it.) I'm really glad you liked it! Thanks for writing! Best Regards, Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth -- My name is Kim Eastman (I'm a guy). I live in Rochester New York and I have been a big fan of Janine Newfield ever since I saw her (and purchased one of her tapes) on the streets of Quebec City around 1990. I recently looked for her using the internet, and found that she has worked with you. I couldn't, however, find an e-mail address for her. Could you pass this on to her if she's still in the area? I'd like to ask her some questions about the tape, and of course find out if she has recorded anything in a similar vein. Thanks! Kim Eastman kimbo@rochester.rr.com

That song is close to my heart and I wasn't sure other people would like it. I'm really glad when they do. Thanks for signing the guestbook, too. I get a kick out of it when there is a new message. Hi Elizabeth, It's Jan Tillotson -- we have missed you this year and hope to catch up with you soon. We miss you at Mi Casa -- but you deserve to be treated with appreciation and valuing so I'm sure this has been much better for you. Maybe we'll show up at Tradewinds one of these days. St. Augustine is lucky to have you and we just want you to know that we always enjoy your music and your special way of making all of us feel welcomed. Happy Easter. Jan

I have known the owners of Mi Casa Cafe for a very long time, and I like them and their whole family. I think they understood my reasons for wanting to move on. So it wasn't like that, no hard feelings there. It was a 12 year job on Sundays, and I left with a lot of new friends, and a lot of nice memories. And yes, change is a good thing! See you soon! -E

Also, Hi Sarajane and Lisa. Recently someone told me they kept checking back here for a reply. Hey, if I don't answer back, please don't think I didn't appreciate you signing in. I love it when people sign the guestbook! I may start doing a weblog. Nothing lengthy, just commenting on certain gigs and/or events from time to time. I'll probably be reworking the website a little this summer too, changing some things around, adding some new features. Hope to see some of you this summer! Some people have been asking me why I have not been in downtown St. Augustine as often this year. Well, I have been a bit more reclusive than most years...I took a two night a week music teaching job at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (working with Bill Sabo's group there, a rock band made up of high school kids in the Blind Department. I have just been having so much fun working with these kids. They call themselves the "Outta Sight" band, try to catch one of our shows sometime.) and then with being back in school full time (I decided to finish up my degree and I'll graduate from Stetson next May... I'll be sure to post the date of my senior recital in classical guitar) I have only been playing 2 or 3 gigs per week, and half of those have been at a Bed Breakfast, which is private and for guests of the Inn only! (A wonderful place though, Casablanca Inn, for info: 829-0928) So you kind of have to check my calendar to track me down. Only place I am playing regularly in the downtown area is Tradewinds every Sat.1:00-4:30. I have been there 12 years and I love it, but I know sometimes certain people would rather be outside during the daytime, and some of you used to like to see me at the outdoor type venues. I have some dates coming up at the Milltop deck soon, so maybe some of you would like to come there. Over the years I haven't had a chance to play there much and it is always fun. Also, I'll be upstairs on a few Tuesdays. I'd love to see you there. Upstairs Milltop has always been more of a "listening room" than anyplace else in town... maybe a chance to see a different side of me, more introspective, obscure or original stuff. Ok, ok, I'll of course still play rock and take requests and YES I'll play Bobby McGee again if you want me to! (I really don't mind. I've joked with some of you about it just because I seem to get asked for a often, but hey, it was a great song.) Oh, I am also playing a few dates at the river, Skuttlebutts on CR 13 (used to be Pacetti's). That is a laid back, river atmosphere, a little out of the way for some of you but the food is good and Janet and Steve are just such great people! So check my calendar, because I am still playing all the time, I am just not where you can't help but stumble across me downtown right now. Hey, great to see all you folks that came out to the City of St Augustine Beach city concert a few weeks ago. We had a great crowd and I was glad to see so many of you. It sure made me feel loved. And I had fun at The Kozmic Bluz party Sat night, too! Allright, didn't mean to ramble on and write a book. Maybe that weblog is a bad idea! ;) Hey, I always tell everything on stage anyway, might as well update people as to what I've been up too. I'm off to Milltop, I am playing 1:00-5:00 today. (Tuesday June 22) Hope you all are having a wonderful summer! Elizabeth

Thanks! I had fun! Hey, you guys should really come out to the Tradewinds to catch a show. I have been having the rockingest time there lately! It seems like there have been more fans, or higher energy or something. I don't know why, maybe it is because I have been in school and have been playing 2 or 3 gigs a week this summer, instead of 5 and 6 like most years. Maybe I'm just in a good mood! Whatever the reason, I am enjoying it! I know a few friends never come to listen at Tradewinds, and have told me that it is just hard for them to go into an indoor place like the Tradewinds on a beautiful midday Saturday... but I say, come on in, it's fun! Of course the Milltop gigs are fun too. The deck is nice, but the upstairs daytime gigs have a special type of intimacy. You know, because that is just a great room. Hope to see you there! Elizabeth

Hey, Tom. Thanks for signing. I guess by FYC you mean Florida Yacht Club in Jacksonville? I'd love to work there again. I took a meeting a while back with club director John McCranie, with whom I had worked a lot at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club. I thought I'd probably get a call from him for some dates there but it did not pan out. I wonder if he is still the contact person at FYC? How about this; I will try to contact the club again soon. If you happen to know Mr McCranie or the new contact person and would like to put in a good word for me there, by all means do. I'd like to play at some of the outdoor events, for some of the younger members. Well, I don't necessarily mean for the youngest of members, but maybe just not for the oldest ones. (Outside boat club events and cookouts make more sense to me than having me indoors, playing background dinner music in the Pirate's Den Lounge. I think certain acts might have better fit inside, like a perhaps pianist playing old standards.) Thanks again for the suggestion. I'll look into it. Elizabeth

Hello Elizabeth. I got here by a VERY circuitous route. I have a cousin that I grew up with and am still close to, though I don't see him often - Steve Zelen. When I saw him last (over a year ago), he mentioned that he and Jan were starting (had started) a restaurant called Skuttlebutts. I did a Google search this morning (slow day at work) to see if the restaurant is still around. Your name came up as an entertainer at his place. A few clicks, and here I am. After reading some of your comments, I feel that I at least know you in a very surface way, so I couldn't leave without a note. I play a little guitar (no talent, just love the music) and occasionaly hit a lounge or two on travel. It always amazes me at the talent that is out there. I have a lot of empathy for you guys. I hope that you make it big some day, or whatever your dream is. Lee (PS - Tell Steve and Jan Hello if you see them, and that some wierd cousin of Steve's wrote in your guest book)

And for me to get a tour of the night spots with a local celebrity was really fun. Tim and I enjoyed chatting and wish you great success in your music career. I am listening to your CD now and its as good as I hoped. Thanks and keep in touch! Debbie

Your performance is as enjoyable to watch as it is to listen to. You look like you are having a great time...a woman in her element ! I bought your first CD at a performance about 8 years ago and I still love it and keep it in my small collection of most played CD's. You are a local treasure ! Tricia
Hello Tricia. Well, we had quite a crowd in there yesterday. Fun energy, I mean. It makes a difference. But wow, thank you for saying that. I know that music has been a real source of healing (through the rough times in my life), and in good times, well... music just makes life that much better doesn't it? So when someone says something nice about what I do, please know that I appreciate it. I really do take it to heart.
______________________________________________________________________________________
I just want to say, I sure have had a fun time lately. And in case you don't know, the more fun the crowd is, the more fun the musician has, and that makes for a better show.
And besides, you guys just ROCK! Everyone I have seen and talked to this last month, and those of you who know the juggling act I have been pulling with wrapping up college and working, etc. In particular, to Angie and Lori for the stories, and to Tricia for the above, and for Nan for sending me a card, and to Andy and Teri, and Joe Eagleson and Nigel Pickering, and Jean and Tom, and to others I forgot to mention, AND to the people I didn't even know who mysteriously knew I needed a boost last week and said something out of the ordinary . Nothing I do means a thing... ever ... unless it means something to someone else. And your kindness and continued support means more to me... than I can possibly say.
Alright, no more of this SILLY sentiment from me. (Besides, now my head is all swelled up and I'm thinking I'm a good musician or something, and perhaps I ought to move to New York so I can get discovered!!! So, back to the insults, please...and the heckling, and please do ignore me... and be sure to cheer loudly in the middle of my songs when your team scores on the the television set a foot from my head. And yell "Freebird" and "Stairway to Heaven" and things like that, and don't forget to talk to your date about how badly I sing and play, loud enough for me to hear.
Oh.. the glamorous life of a musician! :)

What's more handy: a dime or a screwdriver? Much love to you. You always have a special place in my heart...and in M's too! We will always be here for you, no matter what! Much love!

Hi Elizabeth! I just read your comments and they made me laugh! I hope you had a nice birthday and let us know how school is wrapping up. Have you graduated? Are you having a senior recital? Don't worry, you have touched many lives in many ways and if you DO go to NY, then I will travel up there to hear you play! Being a musician, I know you like new music. I just heard and bought a CD of the John Butler Trio, they are an Australian Band and very interesting. (www.johnbutlertrio.com). My entire world revolves around music and you are central to that! Much love, take care, and see you soon! Nan Burton
Nan, thanks for asking. I am almost done with school. I did have to postpone the student recital. No biggie, I just needed more time to prepare. I'll do a 25 minute senior recital on classical guitar at some point soon, and then I'll get my B.A. in Music from Stetson. Yay!
I'll be sure to post the date of the recital on the calendar. It will be something different to hear me play classical guitar, but if anyone who likes my regular act would like to attend, I sure would welcome you there! It would be fun to have some "fans" there. ;)

Hi Elizabeth, Just read up on you! We're heading to St. Augustine on 7-21 thru 7-24, and I see you're scheduled at Tradewinds on the 23rd. I was first introduced to this fingerstyle guitar picking by catching (years ago) Richard Kuncicky and was amazed. Anyway, I understand that you must be quite a show from several sources and I'm hoping to catch your show on Saturday. I enjoy playing as well, mostly rock and acoustic, but I most admire anyone that does this fingerstyle picking (Lindsey Buckingham types too), folk singers, song writers, and from what I've read, sounds like I MUST catch your act! Hope to see you this weekend. Sincerely, Keith Larson Hahira, GA email: great_homes@bellsouth.net Sincerely, Keith Larson
Hey Keith. It was nice to meet you and your family on Saturday. I was really flattered that you stayed all afternoon, too. That was a fun crowd we had in there by the end, wasn't it? Isn't it funny how the atmosphere in there changes once a few people start to come in. (Hey, I'm not saying it wasn't fun when we started out ... being only five or so people.. ha ha. Just that the Tradewinds can be a lot of fun when the crowd gets a little bit more involved.)
I guess your family let you escape first to give you the chance to listen to the music a bit longer, huh? (I noticed that they all came in during the last set.) Are they musicians too, are are you like me, the oddball of the family? ;) Actually that's not completely true, my 16 year old son has gotten pretty good on the guitar. It is fun for me to watch him playing these days. Anyway - Thanks for coming, and I hope to see you all again sometime!

Elizabeth - This is Ken Jones, a 1974 Stetson grad. I have a brief mention also today in "The Compass" of the St. Aug. Record about my CD dedicated to Crescent Beach. I noticed from your Gallery that you are a Stetson alumnus ( or alumna ?? :-). When did you graduate? When I was at Stetson we got a band together to play for Greenfeather, Parents Weekend and a few more...called our 50s revival band "Little Dab and the Do Ya's" (remember Bryll Creme slogan ?) I'm proud for your accomplishments. God bless, Ken Jones Homerville, GA (between Valdosta and Waycross)
Hi, Ken. Sorry it took a few days to reply to my guestbook entries. I saw the write up about your CD in the Compass. Cool! Did it say that you have a Grandparent still living here in Crescent Beach? I hope that sometime when you visit, you will look up my website calendar and come around to say "Hi" .
That photo was from a party I played for Alumni about 12 years ago. That was about the time I dropped out - with a year left to go. I just recently went back though, and amazingly - the year I go back, this old picture of me (that I had never seen before) surfaces on the front of an Alumni newsletter! That was fun to see! I found out who had the photo and they gave it to me on a disc. Not a bad shot, I'm amazed they kept it on file for 12 years and then used it...
As of this writing I have finished all of my coursework except for one credit. All I have left to do is to give my senior recital! I'm currently practicing hard, trying to make that happen. (In fact, I have a guitar in my lap as I type at this very moment.)
I might try to pick up some Christmas party gigs at the school this year. I would think they might enjoy that, especially since I'll be a graduating senior/ music major.
Were you a music major at Stetson, or did you go another route? It's a good school. I like it. Expensive now, though. I'm glad I only had one year left!
It was nice to hear from you. Hope to meet you someday, and maybe get a chance to hear some of your music, too.

Hey Mrs. Roth thank you very much. This is Chris by the way. Hope to continue to hear from you. I have something extremely important to tell you. You may find it quite interesting.
We will definitely keep in touch. I'd like that a lot. Glad that you are doing well. We will certainly miss you in Outta Sight this year, though. Mrs. R.

Hi Elizabeth, This is Barbara Johnson...the upright bass player that you jammed with the weekend of the Gamble Rogers Festival. I've got a couple of free weekends coming up and was thinking about coming over to St. Augustine. I just checked out your website to see where and when you were playing. If I get over there I'll try to get by and see you. Sure did enjoy playing with you that night! :) Barb
I had fun playing with you too! You are a great player and it was cool the way you fit into the style of the tunes I play, given our different stylistic background. You rocked! ;)
Hey, nice to hear from you and I do hope to see you again sometime. As you can see from my schedule, I have been playing an awful lot out of town lately, so you might not catch me in the next few weeks. I keep the schedule updated though, and I haven't always been playing so much out of town. It has been fun though. We will cross paths eventually again. Maybe at Gamblefest this year. Are you planning on coming and/or playing? I haven't talked to Bob about whether or not I will be performing this year. I'd like to, and I guess that if I ask him about it he will say that they would like to include me.
I'd sure like to get together and play with you again sometime. Thanks for writing, Barbara.

I put Elizabeth's cd into the player a few days ago and I can't stop listening. I thought that "Useless" was my favorite but now every time I listen I find a new favorite. Each and every song is unique and yet distinctly Elizabeth. Her vocals and guitar work are outstanding on every song and the musical additions of stellar players such as Nancy Cohan on cello and Chris Norton on trumpet just serve to make her own work shine brighter. This cd has been added to my "favorites"
Thank you for saying such nice things! I'm so glad you like it.
Of course, I know who this is because I just got a personal email from you that said basically the same thing. This just shows me that you really meant every word you said, enough to want to come type an endorsement right onto my website. This is an awesome compliment! I really appreciate it, B. Hope to see you sometime soon! - Eliz

Hey Elizabeth! Moved back to Florida recently and tried to see you at Mi Casa Cafe' but I guess you are no longer there. I wanted to introduce my girlfriend to you and to also say Hi since I haven't heard you play in about 2 years. I'm an old timer (not in age) to your music and used to listen to you when you were first playing at Mi Casa. I even used to come and listen in the winter when nobody else was there but me and you played anyway, despite the cold. Would love to hear from you again! Hope to see you soon! Pattie
I don't know how you could think for a minute that I wouldn't remember you. Hey, I just got an email from you. I deleted my answer post and will write you a personal email. Elizabeth

Read about your CD on the Acoustic Guitar Forum and followed the link, loved what I heard and just purchased by PayPal. Look forward to hearing the whole thing. We were in St. Augustine the first week in August and am really sorry we didn't hear you play (although Sam Pacetti wasn't too hard to take!) Hopefully next time we are there we can catch a show.

Hello Elizabeth from Canada, Tis years since I smiled away a great evening in St. Augustine listening to your great performing. I still play the tape (don't have the CD yet) and smile again only to feel the heart tug at the "Dutchman". Glad I found your web site. Yours aye, Bruce
Thanks for writing! So you should visit St Augustine again sometime, yes?
I'm glad you enjoy the tape. I played the Dutchman yesterday. I still love that song.

Sorry to see that you're not at the ssa show this year...any reason why?? colleen ps--ever going to play in daytona??
Hi Colleen, thanks for writing. I can't participate in the SSA festival this year because of a wedding tonight. Too bad, I always enjoy it. I noticed I was nominated and then made it into the finals for the awards in the category "Female Solo Act of the Year". I don't expect that I will win this year, but it is certainly flattering to be nominated and to make the finals! Hopefully I can participate in the festival next year.
I'm not scheduled to play in Daytona anytime soon, but I have a lot of dates coming up in New Smyrna (at the Garlic Restaurant) and in Deland (at the Library Lounge). Please check my calendar for these dates, I'd love to see you sometime. I'm also going to be featured soon in the musician spotlight feature of the Daytona News Journal (possibly Oct 21 issue?) That should be fun!
Thanks again, hope to see you sometime soon.

Elizabeth, Good to see you yesterday. I hope that your guitar stops buzzing soon! I listened to your CD this morning just once through so far. I like it very much. I will continue to listen during the upcoming days, weeks, months etc. You have been blessed with a wonderful ALTO voice and I like it a lot. More than just that, you use that gift to your advantage. You are very musical and quite a good guitarist as well. I'm a new fan! I like your unusual chord changes and your stories are like poetry. They work with or without the music. Good job on this CD. Now, I want to hear a live performance! Teresa and I will have to make one of your upcoming gigs. I wish you were closer though. I'd like to sing with you. Maybe in the future! Good job girl! Thanks for sharing your musical talents with the Desmonds! Bob Desmond
Hey, thanks! Thanks for all of your help, I'm sure we found the problem. I'll let you know. I took the pickup out and am restringing it today. Cleaned up the fretboard as you suggested, it looks nice! I couldn't find the Savarez Corrum basses anywhere in St Aug, or at 3 stores I tried in Jacksonville yesterday. Oh well, I'm putting on D'Addarios - next time I'll try the Savarez.
It was nice visiting with you and I liked your stuff, too. I was going to write to you about it. I enjoyed your CD on the long drive home. Like you, I will be listening more later - but my first impression was - nicely done! The music is interesting and the harmonies are very cool. I thought some of the songs had a very strong British invasion "vibe". One tune was making me think Beach Boys for a bit too, (in a good way). Remember we talked about positive songs, I can hear the optimism in there. Actually, the lyrics make me like you as a person. (As if I didn't already). I only regret that we talked so much that I didn't have time to try out one of your beautiful guitars, but I'm sure we will cross paths again. Hopefully sooner than later.
Thanks again Bob.

Hi Liz, Your concert at the Larimar Art Center in Palatka was the best! An evening with Pure Elizabeth Roth without bells ringing, rude conversations, clinking glasses, plates, bartenders yelling and dodging to see around a waitress. The Larimar Art Center is a great room for listening and you were the best. I’m always amazed when you choose to sing a capella. A Capella singing is like walking a high wire without a net and your rendition of Walking After Midnight was a stellar performance. Thanks for playing Watching as We Die for me. Great Concert! Best of best wishes! Alex Ps: The shoes looked great! :-D … Spammers sux…
Hey, Alex. You rock for driving all the way to Palatka for the show. That's a great place, isn't it? I really enjoyed the whole evening and I enjoyed hearing you play, too. It was nice, and Wayne was really impressed especially with the first song that you wrote (Car name? The title slips my mind, although I had it a minute ago!) He said he would never in a million years have the guts to go up on stage like we do. It's fun isn't it? Especially in a cool venue like that. I don't get to hang out and listen to other people enough. Thanks again for coming and I hope to see you soon! Elizabeth
